This past Sunday, marked the start of the 8th season for the Kinzua Outdoors - Northern Tier Inc. Charity Walleye Circiut.

This years season started in traditional fashion, with a field of over 40 teams, and the threat of terrible and possibly dangerous weather possibly hitting the Kinzua Reservoir mid day. Mother nature finally cooperated with us a little bit and the bad storms missed us, allowing teams to chase those eyes all day.

Anglers fishing the day before had mixed results with some teams finding fish and others struggling. As is usually the case in our events, it's extreemely important to put 5 eyes in the box on tourney day, and this event was no exception. Ten teams managed to bring in the 5 fish limit for the event, and all ten of those teams were positioned in the top ten.

Starting this year the exact same way they finished last year is the team of DeWayne Cawley - Steve Colley who dominated the event and brought home the win, with an impressive basket weighing 9.15 pounds anchored by a 2.80 pound fish that just missed tieing the big fish for the event.

Second place team of Bob & Nancy stewart gave Dewayne and Steve a brief scare when they walked past them with their bag of fish, but after weighing them, they came up a little shy , but was enough for their best finish ever with a weight of 8.43 pounds.

Third place saw another familiar team in the top for our events with the brothers Rob and Mike kemick weighing a nice basket of eyes tipping the scales at 8.31 pounds.

Fourth Place went to last years Team of the Year Chuck Sabatose and John Pendleton weighing another liumit of eyes for a weight of 7.07 pounds.

Rounding out the top 5 was the team of Chad Yohe and Brandon Labrozzi with a weight of 6.95 pounds. This finish was indeed a memorable one for the team. The evening before, Chad had informed me he expected to see some good weights for this time of the year brought in, and that he had been catching some decent fish.

Chad's prediction was right, and he and Brandon While celebrating Chad's 25th birthday, had their first top five finish in the walleye circuit. This was truly a special day.

Fishing in their first Kinzua Outdoors event was the team of Bryan Hoffner and Kevin Perryman who decided they wanted to start the season off in grand fashion, and captured the big fish for the event tipping the scale at 2.81 pounds, and then decided to draw his very own number in the 50/50 drawing to win that as well. In true sportsmanship fashion, Bryan did offer to donate the 50/50 winnings back to Kinzua Outdoors Annual Kids tournament.

Top Ten:
1. Dewayne Cawley - Steve Colley: 9.15 pounds
2. Bob & Nancy Stewart: 8.43 pounds
3. Rob Kemick - Mike Kemick: 8.31 pounds
4. Chuck Sabatose - John Pendleton: 7.07 pounds
5. Chad Yohe - Brandon Labrozzi: 6.95 pounds

We are allready excepting entries for our next event on Sunday May 23rd, and have 11 teams signed up. We ask that teams that are not able to do so earlier please sign up for our event at the St Judes event in 2 weeks.

During our awards ceremony we announced new this year an awards banquet will be held in Februaury, awarding all Team of the year awards at that time.

We also thanked Fairway Ford for their continued support as our Plaque sponor. Fairway has been with us since the beginning 8 years ago.

Case Cutlery is once again on board this year as a major prize sponsor.

Crescent Beer is once again our bevererage sponsor.

A very special thank you goes out to Dave Grady, Owner of Northern Tier Inc, who has graciously stepped up his support to becoming this years Title sponsor for Kinzua Outdoors events.

Kinzua Outdoors officialy announced at the event the addition of John and (soon to be) Lindsey Terwilliger to our staff. In just the last few months their help has allready been greatly appreciated, and John was instrumental to the development of our new Title sponser.

I would also like to add another special thank you to Chip & Betsy Giordano and the Corydon Hotel for allowing us to move the event their in the morning for the anglers safety in case of bad weather.
